獎學(xué)金|英國劍橋大學(xué)某學(xué)院設(shè)立全額獎學(xué)金

根據(jù)英國《每日電訊報(bào)》報(bào)道，劍橋一所學(xué)院面向貧困背景學(xué)生設(shè)立了英國第一個全額獎學(xué)金，與“常春藤院校”提供的類似機(jī)會抗衡。

▎劍橋大學(xué)設(shè)立全額本科獎學(xué)金

這所學(xué)院就是劍橋大學(xué)圣約翰學(xué)院，該獎學(xué)金項(xiàng)目叫做“Free Places”(免費(fèi)名額)財(cái)務(wù)支持方案。

根據(jù)St John’s的新計(jì)劃，這項(xiàng)全額獎學(xué)金覆蓋學(xué)生大學(xué)期間的所有學(xué)費(fèi)、住宿費(fèi)和其他日常生活費(fèi)。一次將覆蓋40名本科生，符合條件的學(xué)生每年可以獲得超過￡17,000的資金支持。

一直以來哈佛、耶魯、普林斯頓等大學(xué)提供全額獎學(xué)金機(jī)會，覆蓋學(xué)生的學(xué)費(fèi)和生活費(fèi)，但英國是沒太有全額獎學(xué)金這個說法的。St John’s這一做法打破劍橋慣例，也打破英國以往慣例。

所有符合獎學(xué)金條件的St John’s錄取學(xué)生，將在2023-24學(xué)年自動獲得學(xué)院的獎學(xué)金。負(fù)責(zé)人表示，這個獎學(xué)金不需要償還，這樣學(xué)生畢業(yè)時(shí)就不會負(fù)債。St John’s學(xué)院表示，這一項(xiàng)目將適用于每年學(xué)費(fèi)￡9,250的所有本科生。另外，這項(xiàng)獎學(xué)金還將提供住宿費(fèi)和生活費(fèi)，使之成為全英國最“慷慨”的獎學(xué)金項(xiàng)目。

三年本科下來，每名符合條件的學(xué)生將獲得總計(jì)￡51,000的經(jīng)濟(jì)支持。

St John’s院長Heather Hancock表示，許多來自貧困家庭、學(xué)業(yè)成績優(yōu)異的學(xué)生都不愿申請劍橋大學(xué)，因?yàn)樗麄儞?dān)心畢業(yè)后會陷入債務(wù)困境。

Hancock院長還介紹，她自己本科就讀的就是St John’s，她也是家里第一個上大學(xué)的人。她鼓勵大家，對來自英國低收入家庭的18歲優(yōu)秀學(xué)生來說，哈佛、耶魯或其他美國藤校能夠提供全額獎學(xué)金機(jī)會，St John’s學(xué)院也希望為這些英國學(xué)生提供同樣不需要償還債務(wù)的機(jī)會，讓他們有機(jī)會在劍橋發(fā)揮自己的學(xué)術(shù)潛力。

目前，英國很多低收入家庭的優(yōu)秀學(xué)生，仍然因?yàn)閷W(xué)費(fèi)問題，決定不上大學(xué)，這是真實(shí)存在的情況。

該獎學(xué)金項(xiàng)目的資金來源是“Free Places”籌款活動中一比匿名1400萬英鎊的捐贈。

劍橋St John’s學(xué)院由亨利七世的母親、亨利八世的祖母瑪格麗特·博福特(Lady Margaret Beaufort)夫人于1511年創(chuàng)建。與博福特夫人的愿望一致，在1511年至1689年期間，圣約翰學(xué)院有50%的學(xué)生來自當(dāng)時(shí)被認(rèn)為是英國北部的郡縣。 多年來，這一比例已降至目前的15%左右，反映出英國北部以外大學(xué)普遍存在的格局。

一直以來英國獎學(xué)金少又難拿，這次設(shè)立了全額獎學(xué)金雖然主要是針對本土學(xué)生，但也算是非常巨大的進(jìn)步了。對國際生來說，能進(jìn)牛劍就是非常值得驕傲的事情了，是不拿獎學(xué)金大家也擠破頭都想進(jìn)的學(xué)校。

1.劍橋大學(xué)

劍橋大學(xué)已經(jīng)有一大批專業(yè)關(guān)閉申請，另外不同專業(yè)的截止時(shí)間截然不同，劍橋招生辦強(qiáng)調(diào)，由于申請非常火爆，建議大家盡早提交申請，而不是等到截止日期。
